What does it take to have a mindset of a champion?
Great achievers have a vision that they will succeed and sometimes even see the steps leading to their success. So, in my opinion, what makes a champion, and I mean a champion in the broadest sense, is a champion mindset. And, if you have done something great in one field, you are more able to do it in another. Your champion mindset is the transferable commodity and not the skill itself. It is our mindsets which ultimately limit our expectations of ourselves and which circumscribe our boundaries. It is our mindsets which determine whether or not we have the courage to challenge others and to expand our horizons.”
Dr. Allen Snyder, Director, Centre for the Mind
I grew up in a broken home. Big deal, who didn’t, right? So where I really grew up and acquired most of my character traits was in the locker room and playing fields of high school and collegiate sports.
In retrospect, twenty years later, those sports weren’t just games; they were platforms where I put myself in challenging positions in order to test my limits. And then push beyond those limits once I recognized those limits were self imposed.
This is called growth.
This is life.
This is what we signed up for.
As I look back, I realize that my biggest personal successes came when I surrounded myself with winners. People who wanted to push themselves as hard as I did and compete. People who wanted to become better tomorrow than they were today.
In fact, just sitting here thinking about it makes my soul hungry for more. Not in a reminiscing ‘glory days’ type of way but in a more profound way…it makes me crave being a leader. It makes me want to be part of a team of people who want to be champions.
People who want to write their own life story in a way that they will make generations proud- get their moneys worth out of life.
It makes me yearn for teammates.
On the flip side…
the times in my life where I’ve underperformed or look back with regret, were times that I was on cruise control or got caught up hanging out with people who were OK with just being ‘good.’
Being good is for sissies.
No one gets a standing ovation for being good.
You weren’t put here to be good.
Developing and maturing into who you were destined to be, as God formed your irreplaceable mold… that’s the game.
I have two little boys, Frankie, 3 and little Brody, who just turned 10 months old. I don’t want to be a ‘good’ Dad. If I’m a ‘good’ Dad, they’ll grow up, do their own thing and call me a few times a year. That’s not ‘good’ enough.
And it all starts with a mindset of a champion.
You may be thinking, “How does this apply to my network marketing Business?”
It applies to everything. It applies to your marriage, your kids, your friendships, your job, whatever- it’s a universal law of achievement.
When it comes to being on this team, don’t tell me, ‘This is too hard.’ Because I’m not buyin’ it. Don’t fool yourself into believing it either, otherwise you ‘accept’ mediocrity.
Are parts of life hard? Yes!
Can parts of a network marketing business be hard…yes.
Thank God, because you can do hard.
You can do more than you think you can. And the key word here is THINK.
I was in this accident- hit head on at 65 MPH.
I know, it looks horrible but wait it gets worse; after we were hit the jeep then landed on top of me! Quite a Wil E. Coyote scenario…first I get hit head on at 65, the next minute I’m flying through the soft cover and being launched out of the vehicle. Finally, as I lay sprawled out on the pavement, the jeep finishes its fourth or firth roll and lands on top of me.
Talk about bad luck!
One of four friends in the jeep with me, who ended up dying later, watched from the side of the road and told me what a heartrending feeling he had as he was forced to watch me die under the jeep.
Enter God…
But then…. in a sudden and explosive burst of adrenaline (and a turbocharged dose of divinity) I actually pushed the jeep off of myself.
In doing so, I tore nearly every muscle in my body. The launch produced some substantial head injuries which I still deal with today. Of course, I’m grateful to be alive, though I felt like 8 of my 9 lives were spent right then and there.
Jack Dempsey said it best, “A champion is someone who gets up when he can’t.”
You MUST adopt this philosophy now. There is no business venture, job, website, system, or product that will rescue you from inaccurate and self defeating thinking. If you don’t get your head where it needs to be, every endeavor in your life will be a struggle.
There is a champion in all of us.
Are things difficult right now for you? Are you frustrated? Are things not going your way?
If so, congratulations, your alive. It’s part of the game.
Here’s your gem…somewhere in the difficulty is a concept known as perseverance.
Somewhere woven into the frustration is a trait called patience.
As I’m living out my dreams, just like you, I’ve been frustrated before. Just like you, I’ve felt failure before. Just like you, I’ve been sad, disappointed, and lonely- just like you.
If you want the big life that you say you do, a wellness way of life… with true freedom, health and wealth then you must seek out people who have a mindset of a champion.
Seek them with relentless desire. As if your life depended on it.
And guess what… champions will start looking for and finding you as well!
If you’ve never played a sport, that’s okay, becoming a champion runes in your blood. And the best thing is that you’re only a mindset away.
The moment you make that decision, idea’s you’ve never had before will start to dance in your head.
Champions will start to appear in your life… teammates. They will crave being around you.
In difficult times, faithful and encouraging teammates may be the critical difference between success and failure.
Today is what counts, yesterday was just practice and it won’t show up in the standings.
It’s over. Play for today.
Don’t fail because you never allowed yourself to get started. Don’t avoid success because you think the responsibility might be too much. Don’t deny yourself the exalting feeling of victory.
With big challenges come big rewards. That’s the game.
The bigger the goal and the wilder the dream, the more resistance there will be on the journey.
Expect it, deal with it, and move on.
A speed bump may slow you down but don’t sit there and let it stop you.
Don’t be the cow that’s stopped in his tracks at the
painted cattle guard on the road of life.
Define your new standards.
Then live by that doctrine. Adhere to it.
Get off the bench and onto the field.
Live it.
Feel it.
Dream it. And your life will become it.
Passion and desire will create action.
Focus will create success and confidence. Now your alive.
Play like a champion today. Then wake up and do it again.
